Considering that everyone seems to have the exactly problem where their traceroute goes dead at the same point it is most likely the fault of that node or the node directly after it. In this case the offending node belongs to uu.net. Best people can do is call their ISPs and complain and hope the ISP pressures uu.net to fix it.
POS7-0.GW2.LAX15.Alter.Net and
POS6-0.GW2.LAX15.Alter.Net seem to dead end all traffic destined for the game server (and anything else hosted there like the old Fi vent.)

Wow.. Good for you Lycan. Still having that problem here. No word from ArenaNet. They just had me send a trace route result which I bet is exactly the same as all of you. Looking for some other games to play while we ride this thing out.

If your looking for a good game that will take up ton's of time, which looks like it's going to be awhile till ArenaNet fix's the problem, try Elder Scrolls Oblivion. 30 hours into the game now and haven't even scratched the surface.....ok maybe just scratched the surface but I'm playing this till GW is back up and running.

well folks im working on my 3rd week of no GW starts this friday. Yes im pissed and getting the run around from PlayNC i know that this is their problem and their working on it. so im trying to stay calm. I am giving them a chance if they can't fix this before the Factions release then that will be a sale they lose. Hopefully they will get it done and we can all live happy and peaceful. Little hope here but there is some.

I'm going on 48 hours of non functioning GW due to the 058 code. I was amazed when I found this forum with so many people who have the same problem. Long story short, I'm a little pissed. There's not much of an excuse for this, and they better get it fixed fast, or their losing a Factions customer.

The new update hasn't done it for me. Still getting Code=058. I wonder when they're gonna actually start fixing that. You're not alone Wolfie. I'm on my third week on Friday as well. That helm on the login screen looks tacky.

I got this reply from Russell in techsupport after I sent him the trace route log file:
_______________________________________
This issue has been escalated to our network engineering team. The issue seems to be related to network updates that a major Internet provider are making and they are also looking into a resolution for this issue. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have an ETA for the resolution of the issue, but rest assured that it will be resolved in due time. We appreciate your help and patience in identifying this problem and working towards a resolution.
Please let us know when you're able to connect again and whether you have any other problems at that point.
Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team

This is probably the same cookie cutter response they've been giving to other people, I would think. I understand that the situation is not under their control, and I'm not about to say that I know how a complex internet backbone works. I will say, however, that I think ncsoft isn't completely fessing up to the problem at hand. Sure, an internet backbone may be having routing issues. Why, though? Doesn't ncsoft have some sort of internet routing redundency for their authentication servers? I don't see how one major ISP can be causing so many problems for so many people, is what I'm trying to say.
Bottom line: if they don't fix the problem, I'm not buying Factions. Neither for myself or my wife. That's TWO sales they're going to missing out on. I'm sure a number of you guys feel the same way.

Doesn't make sense to buy a game you know you won't be able to play.

Have any of you guys ever tried picking up your computer and going to a friend's house and borrowing their Internet connection for a short time to see if the GW on your system works there?
Or how about loading GW on a friend's computer or laptop (for a test) and bringing it to your house to see if it works there?

Am glad I read this thread before uninstalling and reinstalling GW; have had 5 crashes in the last day, after having no problems whatsoever for ages, and now I can't play GW! I really don't fancy reloading GW as well as all the updates, and so I shall wait and see if ANet fixes these errors before proceeding. Maybe this is the excuse I need to go and get Oblivion?

i normally play at my university, but after having this problem there, i took my computer home for a weekend and was able to play there with no problem. first had the problem last week, did the uninstall/reinstall and worked fine until the last update, when it stopped working again.
and, if you guys are lookin for something to kill the time, oblivion is definitely the way to go. over 20 hours in and have hardly dented the surface.

Am finally back in GW too, not sure if its de to ANet doing something or the vast amount of cleanup I did on my PC. As long as I dont get disconnected again, I am happy!
